ProMeris for Dogs contains Amitraz, a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI). Do not use any other MAOI products such as Anipryl or Selegiline while using ProMeris for Dogs. Consult your veterinarian before giving ProMeris for Dogs to dogs being treated with Mitaban Dip, Preventic Collar, selegiline, Anipryl, tricyclic antidepressants (amitriptylline), SSRI's (fluoxetine, Prozac, or Reconcile)  and meperidine.

Individual sensitivities, while rare, may occur after the use of any pesticide product. Side effects may occur if the product is licked after application. When used between the shoulder blades, as directed, licking isn’t an issue.
If skin irritation, change in behavior, vomiting or diarrhea is observed and persists after the use of this product, call your veterinarian immediately.

Additional cautions supplied by the manufacturer when using ProMeris For Dogs include:
  1. As with all pesticides, wearing rubber gloves during application will reduce the potential for skin contact.
  2. As with other pesticide products, treating dogs in the evening and isolating them from your family during the night will reduce the amount of contact with this product.
  3. Do not touch your face, eat, drink or smoke while applying this product.
  4. As with many products, pregnant women, women who are breast-feeding, and diabetics should use particular care to avoid contact with this product during and following application.
  5. This product contains amitraz, which like many other pesticides used on pets, may cause neurological effects if ingested, especially in children.
  6. Do not allow children to mouth or kiss the treated area on the dog for at least a day or more after the product is applied to the dog.
  7. People taking monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) medications should use particular care to avoid contact with this product during application and until it is completely dry.
  8. Do not administer to dogs suffering from heat stress.
  9. As with any product, do not allow ProMeris for dogs to contact the eyes of the dog.
  10. Do not allow animals to lick each other following treatment.
  11. Known side-effects resulting from the ingestion of Amitraz such as sedation, lethargy, and slow and shallow breathing may be observed in some dogs. These signs are generally mild and resolve without intervention within 24 to 48 hours. As stated on the label, if signs such as these persist you should consult your veterinarian.
